The Old, The New

Now that Yugioh has once again entered a dormant phase the only thing that is worth considering is how much Chaos Dragon would affect the Meta in my country, Malaysia. Other than the new upcoming set Abyss Rising. It’s old news that the Malaysian Nationals was conquered by Sung Lee’s Chaos Dragons and with that I am pretty damn sure there will be a cult of followers worshiping the deck itself. Latest evidence being the first Top Shop Qualifiers being taken by Chaos Dragons but I was not present on that day itself so I would need to confirm my facts. This post will not be dedicating itself to Chaos Dragons hate instead I am looking to learn more on how their Extra Deck looks like at its best and what weapons could Chaos Dragons possibly wield. The generic ones are obvious so digging deeper is needed. So, let’s start off by meeting the first nominee of today’s article.

EXPLODER DRAGONWING

Dragonwing is a DARK-type dragon Synchro that has the ability to destroy targets immediately without applying Damage Calculation if the monster that battles it has equal or less ATK Points compared to itself. So, why should people use this card? I would like to stress again that 2400 ATK will be a magic number in future OCG scene when Rabbits Raggia finally get their full supply of arsenal, that being Dolkka and Tour Guide. So, killing Raggia and dealing burn damage is good. Apart from that, this dude is also forms a wall that forces opponents to come up with something slightly bigger then Dragonwing to avoid dying and eating free burn damage. Forbidden Lance makes a good combo together with Dragonwing. Offense-wise or for defensive means. If you have the space for it, I don’t see why not? All and all, it is also a DARK that feeds your Graveyard for Chaos plays if it has served its purpose.

ANCIENT SACRED WYVERN

We all recognize this bastard from the Agents format. Wyvern is pretty much a self-explanatory card. Being a LV7 and LIGHT immediately shows how easy it can be summoned in Chaos Dragons. Even though, you need a LIGHT Tuner to call forth this potential OTK white motherfucker which has the ability to revive itself Effect Veiler does the job for you. Many times Chaos Dragons struggle with attack power which goes over the 2800 mark and if you do not have outs like Chaos Sorcerer, Ryko, and BLS you find yourself pretty much stalling for cards which will bring into worst situation. Ancient Sacred Wyvern is a good starter or solution for such problems but the downside being Life Points due to the attack moderation effect. Either way it is still a good weapon to have and I would consider Wyvern a staple in my Extra Deck alongside Brionac and Black Rose if I choose to pilot that deck.

ANCIENT FAIRY DRAGON

A 3000 DEF wall which is a LIGHT and has the ability to pop field cards or Special Summon LV4 or lower from your hand. Ancient Fairy is one of those situational cards that might help you turn the tables as it has the ability to stand the field with its 3k defense while you draw into cards you need to go into your combos. What I found interesting with this card is how it could make use of dead Eclipse Wyverns in your hand to make Queen Dragun if you have another LV4 in hand. It can even assist you in Synchro Summons. Though the best play being Exceed Summoning a Queen Dragun Djinn to continue your mumbo jumbo. Again, it’s a LIGHT so it feeds up your Graveyard for potential Chaos plays. Do give this old timer a try.

COLOSSAL FIGHTER

Chances are if you are running Plaquespreader Zombie in your deck you should be looking into running this card. Colossal Fighter is a card that is good in Chaos Dragons and good against Chaos Dragons as well. Similar function to Ancient Fairy Dragon, Colossal Fighter can be a nuisance if your opponent does not have stuff like Ryko, BLS and Chaos Sorcerer to remove it in the mirror match because it keeps on coming back if it dies due to battle. That applies to other decks that relies on battling it out or beating down their opponents to death. Being a DARK and a 2800 beater means it is also a strong card that can crush your opponents while it stays on the field long enough to allow you to draw into more cards or setup for more combos. Colossal Fighter is definitely a force to reckon with in mirror matches as it can overturn any field easily. Anything equal or below 2800 is a minus when this card is present as this fighter is capable of reviving itself or any other Warrior-type monster you have. So, give it a go.

Chaos Dragons is a deck that requires a lot of self-control to run and even though it looks like a straight-forward deck Chaos Dragons have numerous options when it comes to diversity in tactics. Those above are a few choices of that so-called diverse tactics that Chaos Dragons have access to. Of course, there are more cards that is good as well like Crimson Blader or Stardust Dragon but the ones above have the ability to serve a bigger purpose due to their elements. I hope this post has provided you with a different viewpoint on Chaos Dragons and most importantly I hope it has been helpful. Remember this is a suggestion not a statement. Thank you for reading!
