Latent Beleaguer

Cosmo Blazer will be out this weekend and after taking a close look into the set I must say it is much more worth it compared to Abyss Rising. The set offers a ton of Commons and Rares that might become useful in the future and of course some of the foils are really delicious. Check out Dueling Days’ latest post on Terror Fang and Lightning Plover! I initially planned to cover those two as well but now I will only review one. The card that should be getting some attention is non-other than the latest Rank 6 Exceed Monster in the set, Haze Beast Basilicock (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Haze_Beast_Basilicock).

Basilicock comes in a package of 2500 ATK and 1800 DEF which is decent though that isn’t the fun part of this card. With the ability to banish a card opponents control or in the Graveyard, Basilicock is definitely one attractive and nasty existence in its own way. However, the problem with this card is that it has specific summoning requirements (much like Raggia and Lightning Plover.) One must think without such restrictions Basilicock would have been a devastating force in a Hieratics deck. That point only applies because it is a Rank 6 monster. However, it is not impossible to incorporate this card into a Hieratics deck. Simply switch out Emerald Dragon for a Tyhone 2 (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Tyhone_2) and tech in Haze Beast Cerberus (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Haze_Beast_Cerberus) or Haze Beast Sphinx (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Haze_Beast_Spinx) if you may but that would end up being a luxury not a necessity (I doubt it’s even practical.) Probably the only deck that could run Basilicock at ease is Lavals with the help of Lavalval Dragun. I must say Haze Beast Basilicock is perhaps a good attempt in Konami’s part to keep it low key. The rest of Basilicock’s effects aren’t exactly realistic to apply. In a nutshell, this card falls short in comparison to generic Rank 6 Exceeds that comes with removal effects (though it would have been great to include a Trishula-like monster into the Extra Deck.)

Going into Haze Beast talk, it is an interesting sideline archetype in Cosmo Blazer however not exactly practical enough. Despite that I do see a lot of potential in Haze Beast Cerberus (200 DEF if that means anything to you) because of its Eset-like effect which allows some amount of cheap plays in Hieratics (Special Summon Tefnuit, Normal  Summon Cerberus, do your Rank 6 shit.) The next best card in Haze Beast would be Haze Beast Sphinx. You can probably find a few numbers of plays in Sphinx together with Tyhone 2 and Tefnuit but all that is only casual game material. If you somehow manage to get Lavalval Chain into the mix than hallelujah is all I can say. To close it all up, flaming chicken looks tasty but too expensive to afford (I do hope to see it in competitive play.) This is another quick update that I wish to share. Hopefully, it has been informative and entertaining enough. Thank you for dropping by!

  2. Are there any Hieratics that are FIRE?

When I first looked at this the only thing I thought of was Evolsaur Elias LOL

Or Rekindling into 3 Laval Lancelord and synchro the fourth one, at least it's a 1-card combo not counting Transmission Field

    1. Nope, all Hieratics are LIGHT. But there is a normal monster which is a Level 6 Dragon called Tyhone 2 so it does the trick. Though i doubt it's worth it since Hieratics have easy access to field removals like M7 and Exa-Beetle. However, RFP is kinda tempting.

I don't have much knowledge on Evolsaur but Basilicock is definitely available in Lavals. Quite a good one i must say.

  3. I found the effect of the Basilisk amazing in terms of power :-O. I mean, this is the first monster that can banish a monster once per turn AND attack at the same time.
Then I saw the fire attribute on the materials and was less amazed by it. But Tyhone (never thought of that one) and Cerberus are an option indeed.

    1. I was really excited with Basilicock when it first came into my knowledge but the summoning restriction just killed it for me. Having said that, it's something to look out for when playing against Lavals and Flaming Stars. They have access to this chicken fairly easy.

Honestly love Haze Beast Cerberus. It's such a good card in Hieratics. :D
