I intended to post this piece up on the 31st but I
couldn’t make it on time to do. Nevertheless, here is the last part of cards I consider
crucial to the shaping of this format here in Malaysia. Though more accurately,
these cards are more suited to be called cards that are defining the Meta. But
what’s important is they are equally important cards playing the same role. So,
without further ado, let’s get into the first card.
SUPER POLYMERIZATION
What’s the best way to convince a duelist to pilot Heroes?
Super Polymerization is probably the first card that popped up in your mind
while reading that question. Yes, this card is the main reason why Heroes are
such a celebrated deck in Malaysia. I dare say so because it was the first
thing that came out of duelists’ mouth and mind when card legality policy took
a drastic changed bringing Malaysia closer to Japan’s Meta. No, it wasn’t Rai-oh
or Gorz or Shooting Quasar Dragon that people thought of it was HEROES. Why?
There is no better answer to that than Super Polymerization. A card many coined
as Speed 4 needs no introduction and isn’t shy to give a good performance.
Considering the fact that Heroes aren’t cheap to build here
in Malaysia, Super Polymerization will still play an important role especially
in the Side Deck. If you’re not running Heroes probably the best method to slow
down the onslaught is by utilizing Super Polymerization. Heroes might not be
the top deck in Malaysia at the moment but their numbers are steadily growing
day by day. Despite the heavy paycheck they come with. Evidently, the price of
Super Poly went up to double the original value in a day (when card legality
was lifted.) RM60 to RM120 AND GOING, no kidding there. Many has understood the
effectiveness of this card thus why even if Heroes aren’t on top Super Polymerization
will continue to be sided by players who don’t want to take their chances
earning this Spell card a place in my list.
MIRACLE FUSION
This is probably the next best answer to why you should be
running Heroes if you can afford it. With Super Polymerization discussed, what
more is better than a Speed 4 card? Well, ever heard of the highly overrated
popular saying “Good Prevails against Evil”? Apparently, in Yugioh and in
Heroes miracles like this do happen and often times the “good” do triumph
against the “evil”. I do not need to explain the severity of a top-decked
Miracle Fusion, a free boss monster enabler, and the possibility of having
three chances to turn the tables. That is excluding other power cards that a
Hero deck holds within their precious armory.
The depth of complexity in terms of tactics and strategies
in Heroes is amazingly hard to analyze and safely categorize. Though one thing
is for sure, the deck itself and this card have evolved in many ways due to the
availability of support Heroes has constantly gotten. Miracle Fusion isn’t a
card you call “good” it is a card that becomes great just when you think it is
good. What do you do when your Hero dies to a Dark Hole or through battle? Yes,
you Miracle Fusion for the win!
NIGHT SHOT
With decks like Mermail Atlanteans, Heroes, and generally
back-rows becoming more reactive sometimes Mystical Space Typhoon is not
exactly the best option when it comes to back-row removal. Now I am not here to
argue about which card holds a bigger advantage but in certain match-ups Night
Shot does provide it’s user with a slight bit of edge. Mermails have their Abyss-spheres
and Heroes comes in a Christmas package of Hero Blasts, Gemini Sparks, and
Super Polymerizations. In many ways, Night Shot prevents shit from ever
happening. Unless your opponent decides to become the boss and chain your
target to another card, all I can say is “Nothing is perfect.”
Of course, Night Shot is unable to perform the classic
End-Phase-HA-HA trick but with Heroes and Mermails continue to grow in Malaysia’s
Meta this card should be given more credits. Either by Main-Decking or
Side-Decking, it’s your choice to make. More and more players are now
understands the concept of the next level definition of a reactive back-row so
one of the best way to counter that is by relying on Night Shot. Hardly worth a
set unlike MST but in certain cases it does the job better. This is a personal
pick of mine.
NOBLEMAN OF CROSSOUT
If you do not like facing Face-Down monsters, this is the
way to go. Nobleman might be a more bias card geared towards decks that
generally fear set monsters in Game 2 or 3 but it holds some generic usage
value as well. I repeat once again, Mermails are increasingly popular in our
Meta and Abysslinde is one hell of a bitch to deal with at times. In other
reference, if you’re running Heroes and you fear annoying set monsters such as
Snowman Eater of even worst D.D. Warrior Lady than the apostle of obliteration’s
aid is very much crucial. While this might not be the best card to waste your
Side-Deck slot on it proves to be a card that has effective uses. It can be
specific but it gets the job done well enough even if it’s just a pesky Ryko.
Against Face-Down monsters, you have Nobleman of Crossout. For everything else,
you have MasterCard.
This is the end of today’s post. I hope you have found it
interesting and helpful. Whether you agree or disagree or agree to disagree, do
leave a comment and we shall discuss further on. Stay tuned for Digital Mortal’s
