Clear Mind And Whatnots

I am writing this in my work place. Work has been pretty much bullshit lately and Yugioh has been slow for a couple of weeks now. The only notable change is observing  how Hieroglyphs will progress further and if Inzektors will continue to dominate Malaysia’s Meta. It does not make much of a difference really since it will continue to be a struggle between 2  superior archetypes, at least until Rabbit Raggia gets Dolkka and their damned little girls, Tour Guide. Wind-Ups might make a change here in Asia as well. A lot of people will probably try out Wilson Tsang’s Wind-Up Beast. Seems like a legit threat. I guess its back to a waiting game.

Apart from that, Return of the Duelist is due next week. Other than the Exceeds in that set I do not see the other stuff making an impact in the game as of now.  Machu Mach looks promising so far. Though I must say I am excited to see if DSummon from Dueling Days will be able to come up with some nice tricks with the new machine support, Geargia. Hopefully the legendary combo maker, Baha, will innovate something as well. I’d be damned if Madolce becomes part of the meta.

Going into today’s post, a problem many players do not realize is how sloppy their concentration are when dueling. Most are not focused at all. It is a serious problem if you are looking to improve. Probably should be the first problem a player needs to cure before hoping to improve in other aspects. As mentioned in previous posts, observation and knowledge plays an important role in the game. One needs to pay attention to little details and re-think every move even though they are obvious. Whether they are your plays or opponent’s. One of the important factors that determines winning or losing in a duel. Honestly, it is something obvious but many choose to indirectly push it aside.

How do you do so? Keep in mind these are simple things that you know of but probably forget when you are dueling. Here are a few of my practices:

-Ignore comments from spectators. You should only be focusing on your game. What others say or do is none of your concern at that time being. Not only talking to others when dueling is disrespectful towards your opponent, it causes you to forget little details that might end up being the win-lose factor. Do not pay attention to self-proclaimed smart alec or people you do not like when you are dueling, it indirectly makes you lose focus because you are being emotional. (Fuck that shit. Lol)

-Ask or read card effects. You do not want to be confuse and make the wrong decisions. Clarifying is the best way to avoid misplays. Do the same when your opponents perform a play or when you make a move. Emphasis on declaration as well.

-Concentrate by only paying attention to the field and your opponent. Read every body signal you can digest and interpret them to your advantage. The same theory when you attempt blind MST. Make sure your belongings are at a place where you can see or feel them to prevent items from being stolen.

-Check hand size and Graveyard all the time. Focus on those two details as well. You can make better decision when you have more information. The Graveyard is one of those source of information. This allows you to hide your psychological mind tricks as well.

-Do not rush yourself. Play slowly so you do not make stupid mistakes. Take those extra seconds to make sure you are doing the right play, think and re-think if you must. A lot of players miss out on stuff like your opponent has a field card activated or generally similar issues.

-Suppress your emotions. Another along-the-line point. Do not lose focus because of emotional issues. You should be cold or emotionless when dueling, may it be friend or foe. Also, do not let issues like I am having a bad day or my draw sucks contribute to losing mental focus. The best way to maintain focus is by shutting out everything else.

-Keep yourself hydrated. This keeps your mind fresh and active. Yugioh is not an easy game where you only sit, draw and move cards. You need to think. Yugioh is serious business, no bullshit when you are gunning for a top spot. So, take little sips to keep your brain active.

Remember to always have a clear mind when dueling. This applies when you are play-testing. Perhaps not when you are just messing around with your friends. A human’s mind is his strongest weapon. If you want to perform at your best be sure to keep your focus and concentration at its optimum level. Yugioh is no bullshit in general, play serious or go home a loser. Damn straight? This is all for today. Thank you for dropping by!

  1. I agree with the general conduct for a player that you hav outlined, but I disagree that player's concentration is sloppy, many player's have a "fun mode" for casual games, and a "serious mode" for practice/warm-up games and tournaments. Also, those smart alecs hav to shut up during tournaments, so during casual actually it really isn't such a big deal. Unless they are the bane of your existence yaking away then ya.
