Control, an interesting concept that mankind misunderstands
most of the time. It is something abstract which holds no solid justification
or logic to a situation. We deal with the idea of being in control a lot as
players, if you have not noticed. It is such a strong force it holds your
thoughts, decisions and possibilities to a point where a person loses rationality
of a given atmosphere. Your plays, your deck construction, your chosen choice
of tech cards till the part where you make your decision in a meta format is a
grand scenario directed by control itself. The feeling of being control is such
a powerful element often enough it drives us into a state of dangerous unawareness.
In oppose to control, complacency is a factor in life many
are not aware of. Exactly the definition of the word itself. Yugioh is a game
where battle for control is constant. However, this does not mean one is in control
of a duel. There are tons of elements that makes us lose control or be tempted
to humanly seductions which most of the time brings you to a minus point. A famous
example, over-extending knowing common threats like Torrential Tribute no
longer exists at a certain point of a duel when in reality the back-row you are
not aware of could be a Solemn Warning, Judgment or simply a Bottomless Trap
Hole to maybe a second Torrential which could ruin your combos and ends up
costing you a match. A simple misjudgment such as setting more cards when Heavy
Storm has been used but ending up dying to cards like Malevolent Catastrophe,
MST combined with Dust Tornado.
Perhaps one can argue with points such as extensive research
has been done to be sure none of the mentioned dangers lurk in the format. Do
remember Yugioh is always accompanied by a variety of different personalities
and mindset resulting to invisible elements of surprise. May it be a concealed
hand card or back-row to a freshly-drawn card. With control comes complacency,
a cunning mind trick top players manipulate at its best. If you are looking to
be a great player, remember it is crucial to constantly keep an open mind to
possible dangers your opponent might be concealing. Learn from experience and
attitude, study your opponent and absorb as much data as you can to prepare
yourself. Though preparation might never certainly triumph over surprises, it
pays to at least understand or be able to foresee that danger is never too far
away.
There is no sure way to predict or prevent a scenario like
this but you can definitely alter your mindset to a point where you do not
slack off and be drawn into your own reality or from unseen threats. Never lose
sight of yourself when contending. Plan properly and make sure you are prepared
in one way or another. Tap into your intuition if you need something to reinforce your trust. Losing to yourself is the first thing you should prevent
from happening. Outwit complacency and control, you will surely be rewarded with
a top place in tournaments. Thus one should remember the nature of the jungle
and the concept of evolution within each different species. I hope this post
has brought you some new insights in your quest for improvement. Remember,
