Mental Magnitude

Throughout the years, history has proved to us how being mentally capable of a thought can push an individual to heights they never imagined reaching. How true is it? The idea of ‘having an idea.’ Mental superiority, to me, has always been a deciding factor between winners and losers, between being successful or average. Least to say, I see it as the most important factor while going on with life every day. Though it is easy to think of something, having a call-to-action or passion to deal with it has never been as easy as thinking. Call me egotistical but that is reality. Having said that, the real source of such problems has yet to be discovered or solved. The root problem of not having the correct mindset can come in different forms. May it be bad experience, discouraging environment, or even the lack of self-belief can bring a person down when it comes to facing the harsh world we live in. Trauma is a malice one cannot deal with without proper principles. Humans are fragile in so many ways. That is a fact. No man or woman possesses an indestructible heart or soul.

Put yourself in these types of conditions, what will you do to overcome such predicaments? This is where mental strength plays its part. The drive to surpass what you see as an obstacle and to win what you consider a personal challenge, that is the truth which mental strength holds. There is no logical answer for such debates since it differs for each and every individual. Though whatever discussed, it all connects by results and achievements. Of course, it applies to much more easier scenarios to handle. Something as simple as wanting to be fluent in a language of interest, aiming to be the best in your sports team, or wishing to be a World Champion in Yugioh. In professional sports and Yugioh, for example, mental superiority defines everything. How fast would you improve, how far you go, and how well will you keep your consistency in achievements or performance all boils down to having a strong mindset. An indestructible and immovable self-belief. It might sound stupid at first but one will almost entirely come to agree to it when they begin their own conquest in life. Your mind is your biggest asset.

The trick to it is having the right motivation to train yourself in whatever you wish to achieve. Start by choosing a goal, make it logically for you to achieve. Most give up because of the impossibility of the goals they set. Do not break yourself! Aim where you can reach and aim higher once you reached your target. This is the easiest way to train yourself mentally. Once you manage to do so everything is simple and achievable. Remember to, make it seem like a routine or habit. Human beings are prone to rejecting elements that disturbs their comfort zone. So, make everything you do a routine or habit to avoid subconsciously rejecting it. Do not be afraid of trying new things out. The more you learn the better you get and eventually it becomes easy to adapt in numerously situations or conditions. For example, in Yugioh, aim to win locals before shooting straight to Regionals  or Nationals. There really isn’t a shortcut if you want to be good at what you wish to do. Be a jack-of-all-trades but remember to know what you are good at. That is how you move forward in life, be knowledgeable but own a specific field you feel best at.

For me, it is usually about finding the missing links that connects me between various things I come across. I am a curious person. Everything I do boil down to a sole purpose, satisfaction. That is the missing link or key to action for me. This has brought me to experience further environments or atmosphere where I may not have felt or see if I stick to being a nobody. Satisfaction equals being somebody to me. My ego is my biggest drive. My country has a saying, a term, or an idiom, ‘Juara Kampung.’ It means a lot of things but one of it says local champion, in a negative way. In a way, labeling one as good as where they originated or only good at whatever they do at their place. That saying has grown so deep in me to a point I hate it. Being driven by that, I choose to be the best I can. I chose to challenge myself to avoid being labeled as one. It might sound negative or oppressive but that thought has made me a very competitive individual. Sometimes it annoys me. It is safe to say I am confident in what I do and certainly won’t lack behind when it comes to learning. Thus why I believe no one should beat themselves down with negative thoughts even if you are placed in a difficult situation. Accept the challenge and choose to the option to prevail so you can move forward and make a name for yourself.

Find the concept that defines you. Many well-known figures have an element that makes them different, successful. Lleyton Hewitt is known to be a tenacious fighter in professional tennis, Roger Federer has proven to be a master existing in a different class at one point in competitive tennis. Similar to them, Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras. What makes you, YOU? How far can you go all depends on how well you carry your self-hood. That is what mental strength is capable of. The next time you fall remember to stand up from where you’ve fallen. Learn not to give up before trying and remember not to TRY instead DO IT. Have your own principle, abide by your principle, and dissolve your principle. In short, define yourself without being caged in it. Obey your principle without being bound by it. Aim to be like water. Shape and re-shape. Learn, master and achieve then repeat the process! Thank you for spending time here!

  1. Interesting read! I'm a basketball coach myself so I confront a lot of kids and adults, that don't know who they really are and what defines their game. Many don't even know their strenghts and weaknesses ...

In my time as coach nearly 10 years experience now, I confronted mostly 3 types of mentality.

1 that doesnt give up no matter what, which is really hard to find and mostly they arent really good but they got a pinpoint mentality that is just perfect.

    2. Players that are already skillful but easy to break mentally and give up easy. And they fake a will to win and imaginate that they do all they can but they don't and they are satisfied by that.

3 a fucking robot. Some kids out there have a mentality of a robot srsly. They give a fuck to everything and just do what they are told to do without any thoughts on thyselvles. Just amazing.

    1. Hehehe! I prefer solo sports more but i enjoy watching basketball. I must say i've met the similar types of people as well but i wouldn't wanna go in detail with my experience because that would be another fucking post right here. LOL!!!

I used to coach my juniors in tennis. How do you deal with them? That's the part i'm interested in.

    2. Deal with the different types?

Well depends on how old they are.

If they are 16+ its difficult to change their mentality so you mostly try to make the most of it. Its especially hard with adults, you don't want to have a bad chemistry in the team so you are actually using each type differently. The skilled player and easy to break player, I usually try to convince him or let him imaginate that he really is important and that the team can't do without him. Then he goes like oh they depend on me bla and he actually tries harder and tries to become a leader though that never really happens ... The first type is mostly also a good defender. All of the never give up guys were good defenders. They don't need that extra pet on their shoulder so they go along with anything as long it makes them win. And in combination with the rarely seen robots you have your team right there.

Sometimes you got a combination of the types in one player, but its mostly like that. Since I'm a good player myself cough cough I have the prestige of making a good example to most of my coaching teams. Like oh he does that and that good and he won some stuff blabla, so he should be right, right?

      Well yh xD

If they are 16- you try to teach them the never give up mentality. Hell I even recommend some of them to read/watch some anime, manga in the shounen category or stuff like Slam Dunk. Soemtimes they are pretty amazed by it and evolve even more love for basketball and try to live their heroes.

    3. That's quite an effective approach i must say. Sometimes people who aren't helping themselves aren't worth being helped. That's my general opinion on humans. LOL! But, yeah, your anime-manga-tactic is definitely a good one. We need drama to motivate ourselves in life. Maybe people seem to lack the ability to find a sense of drama in their lives. Definitely an important factor when it comes to sports. The illusion made reality, that's what i call it.

I've only coached my friends and some of my juniors in tennis. Its never easy. Some choose to stick with it and improve by time, even lesser have the talent to learn quick and build a sense of commitment in themselves. The ones that are affecting morale i usually just tell them to not waster their time trying things they don't want to be serious about. At times i'm too strict i admit but to me that is the most effective way to make sure students are discipline enough.

Though when its time to have fun, we do it damn straight! Hehehe! Reward is also a good way to motivate them. If one my juniors win or top a tourney, i'll make sure to congratulate and treat them something.

    4. Rewarding ... Rewarding can be a double-edged sword.

If you're rewarding too much, they feel satisfaction and the hunger after improvement is on hold. Though that is not always happening but it happens. Thats why I reward only when my guts tell me to do so.

I mostly reward adults by celebrating an important win at my apparment, like the reward itself is playinly being together and enjoying being together. But that can only be done in team sports.

I wish I would have rather chose a single player sport instead of a teamsport myself. I'm more of a extreme want to win type and doing everything for it and it happens often, that I quarrel with my teammates, because I don't see they try enough. Thats why I hate teamsports kinda. Too much factors are needed for the success of the team. It is difficult to build a good chemistry.

I tried Tennis once in school, I liked it because I could move a lot and my success was kinda on my shoulders only. But prior to that I had shoulder problems and I couldnt swing the racket like I should be. Volley was the only thing I could do and my athleticism was the only way for me too succeed. Thats why I still went on with Basketball. Darn it xD

    5. I fail at team sports. I don't pass the ball bro. I got MVP in my junior years for Basketball for not passing the ball whenever i got it. LOL! Then i took a tennis ball to the knee. One of those case where you feel no one can best you. Lack of competition so i decided to change to tennis where there were more "pros" in my hometown.

Yeah, its kinda like bribing. Good and bad at times but definitely a valid option. Building chemistry is a painstaking process. LOL!

    6. True true. I always think to myself why the fuck do you pass the ball. You can score more easily than they do, but I'm fucking small! Only 170 cm, so I'm set onto the fucking point guard position. Here in europe the scoring point guards arent that popular as while in US scoring PG's are really in trend.
I wish I could be cold as fuck and just do what I want to do in team sports, but I can't, because of my socialism.

Same happens to me in Yugi FFS. Especially when trading. I can't rip people off and I give away too much for free, especially at kids. And its not like I'm giving away cheap fuck but more like average - good expensive stuff I have too many of. I always hate myself after that and tell myself never ever do it again ^^ but guess what? xD Darn

    7. You're just being yourself. Its good to know what you really are. Some people can be dazed as fuck when it comes to individuality especially the younger generation. But, yeah, sometimes you need to selfish i suppose. Since we no longer live in an age where people appreciate kindness. More likely they call you names from behind for showing kindness, in general. Sucks to feel that. LOL! :)

    8. I still firmly believe that "Kindness begets Kindness"
How do you always write such profound post?

    9. That's true and i would agree so most of the time. But at times, shit happens. Trust me on that. Some people don't cherish kindness and you'll end up feeling crap. I think to myself 'What's the point?' LOL! Hmm...Honestly speaking, i just write what i feel and what i think.
